Ex personal trainer Marcia Kilgore simply couldn\’t manage to find time in her busy schedule to allow for the trips to the gym that she was used to. So, working in partnership with the London South Bank University (LSBU) she took steps, quite literally, to resolve the problem. She developed, tested and brought to market a very special range of fitness shoes known as Fitflops.
These incorporate a specially designed curved sole, which uses materials of differing densities in different sections of the sole, to give the wearer a workout while they walk. The heel section uses a high density material to reduce shocks. The mid section of the sole, the area from the arch of the foot to just behind the toes, uses low density material. The final section – the toe – is formed from a medium density material.
These three zones, and the different materials utilised, combine to maximize the duration of muscle activity during normal walking. The muscles work for up to 16% longer than normal – which means that every step you take in your Fitflops trims your legs and tones your buttocks.
The Fitflop range first launched in the UK in 2006 after extensive tests at LSBU.They were an instant success and many potential customers had to enter their names on waiting lists just to get their hands on a pair of Fitflops.
The original range, unsurprisingly perhaps, was made up chiefly of flip flop type sandals. Customer feedback suggested that there was a demand for other styles and the range was expanded. Today, prospective customers can choose from a very wide selection of Fitflop sandals, clogs and boots – for both men and women. They all look great, after all, there\’s no reason why fitness shoes can\’t be stylish. There\’s a wide range to choose from and they are now available in the USA.
So if you find it difficult to make the time to get to the gym as often as you might like, or if, like so many people, you have difficulty motivating yourself to take exercise, then why not give Fitflops a try? Put them on instead of your normal shoes and give yourself a great lower body workout just by going about your daily business as normal.
