How The Problem Of Hypertension And Alzheimer’s Is Interrelated

Truth is stranger than fiction and the truth is that 73 million adult Americans suffer from hypertension. High blood pressure is caused when the blood circulates in excessive pressure the arteries. The problem could be due to genetic behavior, excessive use of salt in food and thickening of arterial walls. Hypertension does not spare young people as well. Nearly two million children and teen agers are also affected by this problem.

The risk of heart attack, stroke, and aneurysm are more for high blood pressure affected people. Modern medical science has found that high blood pressure is also responsible for Alzheimer’s disease, as one of the reasons for this disease is reduction of blood flow in the brain. And that could happen due long time complain of hypertension.

Dr. Cyrus Raji of the Pittsburgh University, who is co-author of the research paper that put forward this fact, explains that high blood pressure does not directly cause Alzheimer but the way it damages the brain, increases the chances of developing it.

The experiments were conducted taking the help of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). The instrument measured the blood flow in brain for number of people. Hypertension affected participants were found to be having less amount of blood flow to the brain. It was even lower in case of patients with complains of both hypertension and Alzheimer’s. This established the fact that the two are interrelated.

Dr. Oscar Lopez, also of the Pittsburgh University, feels that hypertension should be diagnosed and clinically managed for Alzheimer’s patients at the first priority. A life free from blood pressure is safer from Alzheimer’s as well.

As described by Dr. Raji, the way high blood pressure reduces the normal blood flow volume in brain actually is responsible for brain disease like Alzheimer’s. The two could be complementing each other.

It has more damaging impact on brain by resulting in to loss of memory, problems with speech and mental stability. This leads to thought that the root cause which is sometimes ignored by people could bring hugely complicated problems.

It’s a common practice to put the blame on ageing, but in reality the environment and life style of individuals are the major causes. It is possible to maintain a restricted life style and stay out of the reach of these dieses. With a small change in life style you can stay fit and avoid these diseases.

Americans are fond of fat and sodium enriched food. Sodium has severe effect on neural system. Processed food is the main source of damaging sodium. So it is a great thing to develop a healthy eating habit. Healthy food does not mean eating bad tasting food. This could be achieved by consuming less animal protein and living more on fruits and vegetables. It is always a good suggestion to avoid processed food and cook one’s own.

Exercising is the best way of staying healthy. One needs to get into physical, mental and spiritual work outs in a regular basis. There is no need to go for extensive programs by spending hugely. It is recommended to exercise intelligently and develop a regimented plan. Choose that sort of exercise which is best for you. Following special schedules for hypertension and Alzheimer’s would make one live a long and healthy life.
